“Smart programming, superlative productions, a track record of consistent excellence: TACT is what off-Broadway ought to be.”

–Terry Teachout, The Wall Street Journal

TACT’s 2016/17 season will be a fascinating study in daring dynamic contrasts.  In the Fall we are taking a fresh new look at a classic 18th century comedy, Oliver Goldsmith’s She Stoops to Conquer, and then a contemporary glance at a time gone by with the world premiere of Jeff Talbott’s beautiful new work The Gravedigger’s Lullaby in the spring.

She Stoops to Conquer is one of the brightest jewels in the crown of Classic British Comedy– and arguably one of the greatest comedies in the English language.  TACT’s new adaptation will highlight the extraordinary language while capturing the fun and boisterous nature of the play in an imaginative, fresh, and audaciously irreverent production featuring many of your favorite TACT Company Members.

In the Spring, TACT will be realizing a long-term goal by presenting the World Premiere of The Gravedigger’s Lullaby, a play the company workshopped and developed in our 2015 newTACTics New Play Festival.  Written by TACT Company Member and Laurents/Hatcher Foundation Award winner Jeff Talbott, the play tells the powerful tale of Baylen, a hardworking gravedigger fighting to feed his family in a world that threatens to bury him.

On one hand we have a rollicking comedy in She Stoops to Conquer and on the other we have a darker, more meditative piece of drama with The Gravediggers’ Lullaby. She Stoops comes straight from the canon, while Gravedigger’s is an important piece of new writing from a contemporary voice. Light and dark/old and new/classic and contemporary: our 2016/17 season will display the full range of TACT’s reach.

And, don’t forget, Subscribing Members also enjoy four more plays in our celebrated Salon Series, which, this season, is looking the world of academia and the relationships between teachers and their students in a program we’re calling “It’s Academic!”

Provocative, inspiring, insightful, and fun: TACT’s 2016/17 Season.
